Chalkboard Crush

If y’all are anything like me, you have a kitchen drawer full of pads, pens (who am I kidding…make that crayons) and crumpled up, crossed out, barely legible notes.  Said notes contain pertinent information like the meals you’ve planned for week and random kitchen staples that you’ve run out of and don’t want to forget on the next grocery trip (think salt or lemon juice.)  Inevitably, I forget about at least one thing I had planned to make in a week and fail to purchase at least one of the things I meant to replenish at the store, all because I’ve lost my darned list.  Well no more!  Hold on to your hats because this is just the quickest, easiest, inexpensivest (I love making up words) project ev-ah.

A roll of Repositionable Chalkboard Vinyl
is under $8!  If there’s one thing I love, it’s chalkboards (as evidenced here, here, here and here.)  And in under twenty minutes, I had measured, cut and adhered a chalkboard surface to the inside of my pantry doors.

There’s just enough room for my weekly menu…

…that list of kitchen staples I forget I’m out of until I need to use…

…and a note to the littles pointing to their snack drawer…

It was easy to cut, easy to apply and reposition, easy to write on and easy to wipe clean.  And, as you’d probably expect, I’m dreaming up one bazillion other places to chalkboard as I type…I suppose one might call that a “chalkboard crush”.

  1. Great idea. I have not tried this yet but it looks like it is easy to use…and I like easy! Perfect for your pantry! xo Diana

  3. VERY cool! I was looking for chalkboard stickies for mason jars for a project and never saw this at my hobby lobby….gonna have to check again. What a great idea!

  4. I really want to do this but the back of my pantry door opens inwards, so hits the wall … bummer. Guess I could do it on the outside of the door but then I'd need to make sure I write in neat writing all the time!

  5. I know this is an old post, but I just inherited an old filing cabinet for my office. I was planning on painting it, but then remembered your recommendation….my question is: do you think this would work for covering the cabinet? I'm hoping it would be easier (and not as messy!!) as painting. Any advice? Thanks so much!!!

    1. Hmmm… I'm not sure how well it would stay on with something frequently rubbed at the edges by opening and closing. I would probably just paint it with chalkboard paint to tell you the truth. Good luck… very cute idea!!

    2. I should have clarified WHY I don't think it would stick well – it's repositionable, not permanent. Maybe if there is a permanent version that would be worth a try. I just think the paint would look better, hold up better and probably be cheaper in the end. :-)
