Around Atlanta {The World of Coca-Cola} + Giveaway

Update: This giveaway is now closed.  Congrats Candice Lewis – please email me to claim your tickets!

One of our favorite Atlanta attractions is The World of Coca-Cola.  I know I don’t need go go into detail again about my affinity for the brand, the fact that I’ve worked there for eighteen years (gulp), that Coke & Peanuts are a fave household snack OR that it makes an annual appearance on our summer bucket list.  But… I just LOVE Coke!

We were delighted that Sister and her littles could join us for our fun summer outing this year.  After lunch at Taqueria del Sol (another Atlanta must-do), we piled the littles into my Jeep and were there in just a few short minutes.

When we entered the lobby we were treated to ice cold Coca-Colas in aluminum bottles!!  It was SO perfect with how insanely hot it was outside.

The first part of the tour is structured.  It kicks off in The Loft – a room full of Coke memorabilia from around the world.  Some dating back from the very beginnings of Coca-Cola in an Atlanta pharmacy.  Our guide was incredible and really connected with the guests in the room – we were fascinated to learn that we were part of just a few in the group from Atlanta, and that about seven different countries were represented!  Our host greeted every single one with a hello in their native language.

After the brief intro, you move into a theater for a six minute film.  I have to say – I’ve seen it numerous times and it always gets me choked up and has me leave the room with a huge smile on my face, an extra pep in my step and my heart feeling just a little too big for my chest.

On exiting the theater, we found the Polar Bear just coming into the room for a meet and greet!  He’s so happy and snuggly – the littles loved him!

At this point, you are pretty free to roam and explore!  We headed into the vault where the actual secret formula for Coke is secured.  Did y’all know that the formula is actually a secret?!  It lived for many years in the Suntrust bank before being moved over to the new World of Coke!

IMG_0062

On exiting the vault, we took our time exploring many interactive exhibits that are fun and engaging for the whole family.  Not only will you find artifacts from all over the world, but you can even see a Coca-Cola bottling facility in the works.

The littles are too little to know the infamous red American Idol couch, but that didn’t stop Sister and I from making them pose for a pic.

IMG_0066

Upstairs you will find a multi-sensory 4D movie that takes you on a journey to find the secret formula.  The littles LOVE this every time!

IMG_0068

But, at the end of the day, it’s the tasting room where we laugh, play, make faces and spend the bulk of our time.  It’s fascinating to taste Coca-Cola products from all over the world!!

When it was all said and done we had as much fun this time as at our first visit years ago!  And, compliments of The World of Coca-Cola, I am excited to be able to “share a coke” with one of you!!

  1. I have lots of Coke memories, and was going to mention this one after reading the post but before seeing the giveaway – I remember when “New Coke” was released. The months of speculation leading up to it… we wondered what the change would be?! And then – what a flop. Oh me, it was SO nasty!

Another fave memory of mine from when I was about 13… a former President of Emory University (Dr. Laney) is a family friend. Once when we visited we got to see lots of Coca-Cola memorabilia owned by the University and shared ice cold Cokes right out of the glass bottle – which is STILL the best way to drink them!

    Thanks for a fun giveaway!

  2. I grew up on Coke and I am now making new memories with my two boys by sharing a Coke with them. I remember sitting around the kitchen table with my late grandfather sharing a Coke and stories of his childhood. I would love to enjoy the World of Coke with my two boys and create new family memories with our love for Coke products!

  3. Don’t put me in the giveaway because I’m from South Dakota. Atlanta is unfortunately not in my travel plans this year. :) I just had to comment on how grown up John looks. Mr. 5th Grader!! It looked like a fun outing.

  4. Social Circle, Georgia is my hometown and in the early 80’s Coca Cola chose us to be a test market for their soon to be released soft drink, Mello Yello. Every household (the town’s population was less than 2000 people!) received a case of Mello Yello and was asked to answer some questions about the drink on a postcard. I remember how excited we all were and how proud we were that Coca Cola had chosen our little town! Diet Coke is still my favorite, but every now and then, I’ll think about Mello Yello…… and smile!

  5. The first time we took our three boys to World of Coke, they had such a fun time! Well, except our littlest ~ he was 4 and started running a fever right after we played with the Polar Bear! He didn’t even want to taste anything in the tasting room! So the World is back on our summer fun list for 2016! Would LOVE to win your tickets!! :)

  6. I LOVE Coke! Its a must have in our house and will make any bad day better! Peanuts in a ice cold coke is the perfect summer snack!

  7. I am already on your email list, but now I follow World of Coca Cola on Instagram and Facebook. I remember visiting World of Coca Cola years ago (30 years) and loving it. I would love to take my kids even though they are teenagers now.

My favorite memory of Coke is serving the little glass bottles of Coke at my wedding 20 years ago on a hot day in August! Still nothing better than popping a cold Coke on a hot day! My favorite product is probably Diet Coke, but any of the Coke products is a winner.

  8. What a fun giveaway! Followed both facebook and instagram. I have to have my diet Coke every.single.morning!!! Thanks, I’ve never even thought to look for them on instagram and I even have a diet Coke Christmas ornament.

  9. I remember when I was growing up that anytime we had out of town guests visiting, we would take them to the World of Coke at Underground. Have not been to the new location downtown and would love to take my kids!

  10. ( 1 ) signed up for delightful deets from you daily :-)

( 2, 3 ) following as per rules ; World of Coke on IG and Facebook

( 4 ) Best Memory: catching my first fish on boat in the waters off Bermuda with my dad; it was a hot, humid day and I recall the way those bubbles quenched my thirst and the bottle fit in my hand perfectly. I had nothing but a fishing line and my hands were raw after negotiating the fish onto the boat. If memory serves me correctly, the fish was thirsty too, naturally it had a Coke. :-)

  11. Would love to take my kiddos to World of Coke as part of an Atlanta road trip! We have always drove through but never stopped to explore.

  12. I should have gotten stock in Coca-Cola when I was a little girl, because I drink 4-6 cans of the stuff very day! My funniest Coke memory is when I was on a hiking/camping trip in the Canadian Rockies. The cook ran out of Cokes in the cooler, and we had been hiking all day, and I really needed one. It was pouring rain, and there was a trailhead with a Coke machine about 3 miles away. Yes, I hiked 3 miles each way in the rain for my Coca-Cola!

  13. I am already signed up for Dixie Delights emails! Here is my comment letting you know! I hope I win! :)

  14. I can’t wait to share this with my kiddos one day. I was down for work at the American Cancer Society and reminded how awesome downtown is. When we go to visit we stay in Marietta but I need to bring my kids down and do Aquarium, Coca Cola, go out and do Stone Mountain. Do they still have the tasting fountain that shoots coke??? they would go nuts.

  15. Woo-hoo! We are planning a trip up to Atlanta in a few weeks, would love to visit World of Coke! I am signed up to get your blog through email. Thanks!

  16. Amanda, I already receive your emails…I started to follow on Instagram…Didn’t see what to click to follow on Facebook( Computer challenged)…and my Coke memory would be remembering how much my grandmother loved “her” Coke! She didn’t drink coffee, but the first thing she would have was a ice cold coke. She was very opinionated about loving Coke from a glass bottle instead of cans or plastic bottles. Grandmother was a very old fashioned, traditional southern lady who ONLY liked Coke, and boy if she went somewhere where they didn’t have Coke , she let you know her disappointment. Thank you ! !~ Sherri

  17. My favorite memory of drinking Coke was when my sister & I would visit my grandmother at her beach house in the summer. She would have glass Coke bottles & peanuts for her bridge group. My mom was a dental hygienist and wouldn’t let us have much sugar, so we got to enjoy a Coke (or two) when we would visit for the day!

  18. Just started following coca cola on Instagram! My fave Coke memory: I used the “team” logo one liter bottles as swag for part of a teambuilding session for my group at work. Added Some Pom Poms and our company logo to the bottles. They are still displayed on desks around the office!

  19. My favorite soda is Coke. Being from the south, everything is always “coke”. But the real thing is all I like. I cannot stand when we go eat somewhere that serves the other beverage and the servers act as if it is the same thing. I once worked at Wendy’s. There were “other brand” delivery drivers that would stop by our restaurant once a week. One of the guys would always order tea, but the other would order Coke. He would whisper it, like a secret to me. Used to crack me up every time.

  20. I spent the first 10 years of my life in South Georgia and the rest in California. No matter how old I get or how much time I spend here I always dream of moving “home”. Coca Cola is is part of home.

  21. I have two favorite memories! First one was when I had my first taste of Coke. I was about five and my uncle gave me my first glass bottle and of course poured a few salty peanuts in before giving it to me. Yum!
The second memory was when I was in college and the new coke came out. My roommate and I couldn’t stand it! So we proceeded to go to every local grocery store we could and buy the last few remaining cases of the original coke we could find. That was pretty difficult on our college student budget but so worth it!

  22. Would love to win the tickets! My forvorite coke memory would be drink an ice cold coke from a glass bottle in St. Marks square when we were in Vince, Italy! Pure bliss! Nothing like a glass bottle of coke and Italy! :)

  23. I’m signed up for your emails and I LOVE COCA COLA. Seriously, I have to have one a day. It makes my day complete!

  24. I remember being a little girl going to my Pawpaw’s little country store and getting a Coke out of the deep refrigerator coolers they used to have! Showing my age here.? Would also have have to have a pack of M&Ms to go with it! What great memories!

  25. Hi! I already receive Dixie Delights emails and I wanted to share with you that this is one of my mother’s favorite places. I love snapping pictures of her trying Beverly from Italy!!!!!

Thanks for a cool read and an even cooler way to remember my own trip to World of Coke.

We would love to visit again, so we’re crossing our fingers to win!!!

    Ilene

  26. I did all of them. My favorite Coke Memory happens every Holiday Season. Primary Children’s Hospital does a Festival of Trees to raise money. Every year there is Coke Tree. It is always a highlight for my family to find the tree.

  27. I used drink diet coke, but now a very loyal coke zero drinker. So good!
The only time I’ve been to Atlanta is when I have a layover. Would absolutely love to come out of the airport one of these days!

  28. Being such a Coca-Cola lover, you know I just had to give a comment! I have lots of coke memories, but 1 of my favorite’s is this: Your grandfather (my daddy) owned and operated a dry cleaners, and every time I visited him at the plant (usually needing something like gas money or the likes) I would get a coke out of his old red tall coke machine. It was next to the customer counter, and lots of customers would get cokes too. Of course I never had to pay. It was the kind of machine that had a little door on it. You put your money in, turn the handle and then open the door and your coke would be there. And he had glass jars with bubble gum and peanuts in them, and of course I would always get a bag of peanuts to have with my coke. I love those memories, and get teary-eyed whenever I walk into a “real” drycleaners that actually has the operations there – it is the mixture of the drycleaning fluid’s scent and the steam sounds from the pressers that get to me. I bet you still remember whenever things did not go your way, I would say, “Here, have a coke, you will feel better.” Love, Marme

  29. My favorite Coca Cola memory is from back in the 60’s when they put cardboard d.i.y. Christmas ornaments in the cartons of Coke. My sisters and I made every design, and used them to decorate our tree for years. Wish I still had them. They are valuable now, but the memories I have of those ornaments and that time mean more to me than money can buy.

  30. I get your emails and follow your blog..my favorite Coke product is Diet Coke from a fountain dispenser in a foam cup with lots of ice.

  31. I am signed up for your emails and love them. I did follow the World of Coke on FB and am adding that to my list of things to do this summer.
I may be a little older than some of your readers but I can distinctly remember when Coke went from 5 cents to 6 cents and nothing is better than a coke in the “little bottle”. As a Georgia and Atlanta area(sort of ) I love Coke, the company and the collectibles!!

  32. When we were in Atlanta for the Peach Bowl over new years 2013-2014, we visited the World of Coke. We had a wonderful experience and I hope to go back again. I enjoyed the bottling room as we had a bottling facility here which was a fantastic field trip we took many times in elementary school many moons ago. My bottled Coke is ice cold in my fridge should I ever decide to open it rather than just save it.

We also enjoyed the tasting room with the exception of the Italian coke. BLECH!!! LOL

  33. My favorite is good old iced Classic Coke. My favorite memories are if taking back the bottles to the grocery store for a deposit on the bottles and purchasing a new 8 pack carton of Coke!

  34. Coke was a huge part of my childhood! (I am also from Savannah!) My dad and his sister are Coke addicts, and my favorite memory is from just a few summers ago. We were loading up the cars at the end of our week in western North Carolina and my cousin was going to drive my aunt’s car. She stood there with her Tervis and her can of Cherry Coke and told him to pick her up at the ice machine, and off she went. My dad never gets in the car–no matter where they are going–without a “Coke with ice”. My mom is in charge of packing Daddy’s favorite cups and a cooler, depending on far they are driving. My husband, daughters and I live in Virginia now, so I would love the chance to get to Atlanta!

  35. I am signed up for your emails already :)

As a little girl I can remember going to a local market in my hometown to get the old fashioned glass coke bottles. They were the machines that you could pop the tops off as well. We would also take our used bottles in the carrying pack back in to the same market weekly and restock :)

  36. I have been receiving your emails for a long time now and always enjoy seeing them in my inbox! ? I am following World of Coke on FB and Instagram. I adore a Coca-cola classic anytime but I especially enjoy cherry coke at the movies. Goes so well with movie popcorn!

  37. Sorry, just read the email again about separate posts. I follow World of Coke on Instagram.

  38. I already receive your emails. We are a South Georgia Coke family. My 9 year old twin daughters have this so instilled in them! When choosing a restaurant, the first thing they ask is “Do they serve Coke products?” They quickly veto any choices that do not. Even when we were on vacation last week in Florida , they scanned the restuarant very quickly to make sure Coke was on the menu. They became excited when they saw the red Coca Cola emblem on the glasses as we were waiting to be seated.

  39. Hi Amanda! I am a subscriber and would love tickets to the World of Coke!! My fav is Cherry Vanilla Coke!! Love, love your blog.

  40. My favorite Coke memory is having the Coke in the glass bottles at my boys’ joint birthday party when they turned 2 and 4 years old! The party was outdoors at our ranch, and having Cokes in the glass bottles on ice in a galvanized tub really brought back great memories for the older crowd that was in attendance! Everyone loved it!

  41. My fav Coke memory is when my 4 year old started spitting Coke signs everywhere we went after visiting the World of Coke last year! He would get so excited to see it at a restaurant or when we were driving down the street! He’d say, “Look Mama! They have Coke, too!”

  42. Thanks for a fun giveaway! Fingers crossed as we are visiting Atlanta in August, and would love to take our two boys!

I’ve signed up for your blog emails, already followed you on IG, and added World of Coca Cola on both IG and FB!

I love the CC polar bear; for my sons second birthday party (in January a few years back), we did traditional kid foods with polar bear Christmas cans for the beverages, red and white and frosty blue decorations, and I made polar bear cake pops with red and white striped handles. Such a labor of love, and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

  43. Several memories are associated with Coke but to name a few: I remember my Pop Pop collecting all things Coca Cola , then later on in life seeing my dad purchase things here and there that are Coca Cola related is a nice reminder of my Pop Pop :) . A fun moment my daughter and I share is … now that Coke has come out with Share a Coke and a Song it’s so cute how she’ll come over to ask me what song I got and then we’ll break out in song. I’m a Southern California Girl (San Diego) currently living in Georgia and would love to take my daughter and son to experience the World of Coke this summer :)
