August 2019: An Updated Kitchen Post-Renovation can be found HERE

I originally hopped on today to share a little update in the dining area of our kitchen, and quickly realized that I have not updated my kitchen photos since 2012! Time flies!

I even took a series of pictures about a year ago and never published the post. So today, join me on an updated tour of our kitchen. Our kitchen was the one renovated space in our 1964 home when we moved in TEN years ago. Here is what it looked like then.

Aside from knocking out the bread bin in the far corner and changing out the lights, all we did was add decorative touches to the space.

Before I start in on the dining area update, here are pictures of how the kitchen looked last year, and still stands today.

I have played with various configurations of this table, bench and chairs over the last decade. Everything was originally swaped 90 degrees, with the bench in front of the doors. When we finished the porch and started using it daily, I moved to this arrangement. The trouble was always that the antique table (from my first apartment with Sister right out of Tech in 99) is just too big for the space.

When the arm cracked off of the bench, I replaced it with this upholstered settee. That was more than a year ago, and you have probably seen it in various house, party and recipe posts since then.

After hunting for the perfect sized table for years, I finally had one made to the exact dimensions of my space and it makes a world of difference! I worked with Todd Frusciente on Custom Made, after submitting and reviewing proposals from various artisans. I had him make a 36″x48″ oval table with a pedestal base – something that is impossible to find anywhere. :-)

You can get a great feel for the layout here. I love the bench on this wall because it is my cozy little “spot” and I have a view of the entire kitchen all the way into the den. The new table affords much more space to easily access the porch now too.

When it’s not Christmas or Halloween, I almost always have the marble tray on the table, with a vase, candle and some sort of nut or candy. I also use it for serving sometimes during meals.

Because the kitchen was done by the previous owners, unfortunately I do not have sources for the cabinets, tile, counters or hardware.

In the spirit of keeping it real, from the day we finished the bathroom, I’ve been dreaming of painting the glazed cabinets and putting in the same tile and counters we used upstairs…. Speaking of which, I took pictures and videos of the new bathrooms yesterday and will share everything SOON. There is a great peek on my Instagram today.

  1. Your home is beautiful! How did you remove the breadbox while keeping the rest of the cabinets undisturbed? We have one too in a small kitchen and feel like it takes up so much counter space!

    1. We did the same thing in our home and it gave us such tremendous counter space. Our builder just used a sawzaw or whatever itโ€™s called. He was very delicate about the removal. Just needed a little sanding underneath and some fresh paint. Huge transformation!

    2. Ours was easy to literally just knock out after removing the screws holding it in to the cabinet above. It wasn’t attached to the counter, just sitting on top of it!

  2. This is such a beautiful kitchen! Love the dressed up look and how the soft colors work with your dining and family room. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I love your kitchen. Every detail in your home is just right. I’m just a little curious, have you ever considered having the cabinets painted white? It’s perfect just the way it is but I was just wondering, I guess since you’re a blogger!! :)

    1. Yes! I think about it all the time after the bathroom reno! Iโ€™ve been waiting on a quote for it for weeks.
