I missed my annual January Junkout Jamobree this year so it’s back to 40 Bags in 40 Days for me. I really prefer to kick off the year with a clean slate, but work was absolutely bonkers.
I made a list of 40 areas to clean, purge and organize. I find doing it this way is so much more manageable and motivating. I don’t necessarily go in order. Instead, I pick a task – big or small – that can reasonably be accomplished with whatever other commitments I have that day. My list goes into my notebook that never leaves my sight. Mother and Sister always joke about stealing it and reading everything I’ve jotted down. :-) I have lists for everything under the sun.
Here is my 2022 list:
- garage shelf and lockers
- garage closets and repaint door
- mudroom
- kitchen cabinets and touch up paint
- kitchen pantry
- kitchen lights (basically dust and clean the bulbs)
- polish copper pots
- hall closet
- den baskets and lights
- dining room light
- polish silver
- living room cabinets
- honey’s desk
- office closet
- office drawers and cabinets
- porch
- john’s closet
- john’s bedding
- john’s drawers and desk
- whit’s closet
- whit’s bedding
- whit’s drawers and secretary
- guest room closet
- guest room drawers and armoire
- master closet
- master drawers
- master bedding
- fridge in kitchen
- fridge in garage
- master bath and refill toiletries
- boy’s bath and refill toiletries
- guest bath cabinets
- laundry room
- basement cabinets
- powder room
- my car and purse
- boy’s backpacks
- pool cabana
- pressure wash pool deck
- little free library

Definitely a challenge I need to be a part of as the clutter and just abundance of “stuff” at our house is driving me absolutely mad. I really need to do a purge!!! Thanks for sharing your list as those are some areas I hadn’t thought of…… Best of luck in yours!
Amanda, I love the idea of 40 bags in 40 days during the Lenten season especially if they are being donated. I carried several bags of donated items to a church thrift store on Wednesday. I remember my late grandmother would take the house apart when she did her annual Spring cleaning. The blinds would come down and get washed outside on the clothesline and all the woodwork and walls would get cleaned and scrubbed down along with a long laundry list of other things. It’s amazing to me how things can accumulate during the year!
I don’t do anything official – but I should! I’ve declared this rainy week house week and am cleaning/decluttering/doing all the things to get this place in order!
Thank you, as always, for the inspiration! xo
