February’s Pop In & Sip Awhile featured a cocktail Honey and I both love but had never actually made ourselves… the espresso martini. We sent the text invite to friends a couple of days before and then looked at each other and said, “We better figure this out.”
Luckily, I had screenshot a recipe about a year ago. I recently discovered my phone can search text inside photos and that was a real WIN because I never would have found it again otherwise.
The recipe is wonderfully simple and absolutely delicious:
1 shot Baileys
1 shot Kahlúa
1 shot fresh espresso, slightly cooled
1 shot vodka
Shake it well with ice and pour into a martini glass.
Coupe Glasses (I LOVE them for entertaining – I have 12 and they can go in the dishwasher)
As an aside, when I ran out to the liquor store late Wednesday night to grab the ingredients for our trial run, I forgot my readers. When we got home and started mixing, Honey kept commenting on how good the vodka was and how the whipped cream flavor really made the drink.
Whipped cream vodka?
I had no idea what he was talking about. Turns out that is what I had accidentally bought. Completely unintentional… and completely delicious. We made one martini to share, declared the recipe a success, and called our work done.
The night itself was just what we love about these gatherings. A light crowd that came and went in shifts, good conversation, plenty of shaking and pouring behind the bar, and lots of laughter along the way. I made a plate of my favorite Jalapeno Cheddar Crackers to munch on, keeping it simple as can be.
I failed to get a photo of the final crew of the evening, but here are a couple from earlier in the night.
We will definitely be making this one again. And already dreaming up this month!
