Arizona Spring Break {Sedona: A Grand Adventure}

We started our day with room service breakfast in front of the fireplace, overlooking those iconic red rocks. There is not much we love more than breakfast in the room… and even more so when it is included. Slow, quiet and the kind of morning that makes you want to linger in your jammies just a little longer to truly appreciate it.

The Grand Canyon

We took an incredible flight from Sedona straight to the Grand Canyon Airport, with narration along the way that brought the Arizona landscape and its history to life beneath us. Seeing it from above was just the beginning. We loved flying over Seven Canyons where the guys golfed yesterday.

Once back on solid ground, we climbed into a rugged Hummer outfitted for touring Grand Canyon National Park. For hours, we explored in and out of the vehicle, stopping at breathtaking viewpoints that somehow felt even more awe-inspiring than the last. Our guide was phenomenal, sharing stories, history and insight that made the experience feel deeply personal. We saw a little wildlife, headed out on rocks that made my mama heart nervous and even had the chance to hike a little below the rim, which we learned less than 10% of the park’s 6 million visitors per year ever do.

We stamped our National Parks passports, enjoyed a picnic overlooking the canyon and soaked in what can only be described as one of the most extraordinary places on earth.

My only regret was that John could not be there to witness it.

No language can fully describe, no artist paint the beauty, grandeur, immensity and sublimity of this most wonderful production of Nature’s great architect.

After our land tour, we returned to our plane for an overflight of the widest and deepest parts of the canyon. It was stunning from the ground, but from above… truly spectacular. You begin to grasp the sheer scale of it all in a way that feels almost impossible. Our pilot continued to narrate, pointing out formations and features that added even more depth to what we were seeing.

The flight back to Sedona was a bit bumpier, just as they had prepared us for. We all felt a little queasy upon landing, but without hesitation agreed it was a day for the books. An unforgettable experience in every sense.

Tii Gavo at Enchantment Resort

While Whit took a moment to get his land legs back, Honey and I headed to the Tii Gavo patio at Enchantment Resort for a drink, a snack and many, many rounds of cards. We love a good game of Three Thirteen and Kings in the Corner, and always try to find time to spend like this while on vacation.

Mariposa Latin Grill

Our final evening in Sedona was just as spectacular as the day.

Dinner at Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill was nothing short of exceptional. We started with drinks on the patio as the sun set around us, the red rocks glowing in that soft, golden light that Sedona does so well. It is almost hard to believe a place can be this beautiful until you are sitting right in the middle of it.

Inside, every detail of the experience felt just right. The service, the ambiance and a meal that easily ranks among the best we have had in recent memory. It was the perfect closing note to our time in Sedona.

  1. You’re making me want to go back to Sedona! One of our favorite places! When I read the first post I was hoping you’d be going to Mariposa! It’s one of our favorite restaurants anywhere! Her Italian restaurants in town are wonderful also but nothing beats that Mariposa view and ambience! I think I’ll start planning another trip!
