Fat Monday

A couple of weeks ago I scoured the internet for an authentic homemade jambalaya recipe and dusted off my tried and true from-scratch King Cake recipe with festive plans for a Mardi Gras family feast.  Since I celebrate the big three five on Fat Tuesday and intend to dine out at a hand full of my favorite establishments (rather than slaving away over sausage and sugar dying,) I promptly marked our celebration for “Fat Monday.”  Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans.  Waking up with a full fledged case of the sniffles, I immediately realized that a home cooked meal was not gonna happen.  Instead, we headed to the grocery and left our meal in the hands of Zatarain’s and the Publix bakers.  (I imagine that besties B and R are gasping at the treachery of this meal just about now.)  Honey sweetly prepared our supper, I quickly told the littles the story of the King Cake and we wrapped up our meal lickety split so that I could retire to my bedroom lair.  There’s always next year…

And while I’m on the subject of Mardi Gras, I must share with you the fab bracelet Daddy-O made for his girls a few years back.  While antiquing in Savannah with my mother and sister, we happened upon the vintage 1970’s coins and couldn’t resist making them ours at the small price of a quarter each.  A quick trip to Michael’s for silver bracelets and a few minutes drilling holes with the drimmel and we each had a delightful and unique Mardi Gras conversation piece.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!
xoxo

We arrived bright and early at the Georgia Aquarium and casually made our way through the place, soaking up all of the beautiful and interesting exhibits.  Since we… Read More

Donut Bribe

A normal day around here would probably drive even the sanest soul to the loony bin.  So, while the antics on today’s trip to the Jeep dealer for an oil change and emissions test were pretty normal for me, I knew from the sidelong glances and shocked faces that most of the others forced to… Read More
