I spent the first day of this brand new year doing something v exciting. Cleaning the oven. :-) It was the very first item checked off of my January Junk Out Jamboree. I posted a snap on Instagram and was taken aback by how many people asked how I accomplished this feat. And so, here we are talking about cleaning the oven. Something I probably know less about that most of the population.
I do have a self cleaning oven but I don’t think it works well. You see, I wait waaaaay too long between cleaning and build up waaaaay too much gunk for anything automatic to handle. Or, maybe self cleaning ovens are all bad at their one job.
So, here’s what I did:
- Removed racks
- Sprayed a test spot of Easy Off Fume Free Oven Cleaner – Safe for Self Cleaning Ovens. That was a success. I wasn’t sure if I could use it on the blue finish but it was a go.
- Completely sprayed inside of oven per directions on the can. I avoided heating elements, the fan in the back and the seal.
- It quite literally wiped clean. It was amazing and effortless and didn’t take 47 hours or stink up the house.
The door was another beast. I tried Windex (what a laugh) and a paste of baking soda and vinegar (didn’t make a dent). I doubled down on the paste and Honey took a straight razor and literally scraped it clean. Like the inside, this was nearly effortless! I cleaned it all up and finished it off with windex.
And then I forbid anyone from cooking in my oven for at least a day!
