The Four Gifts

It’s ONE MONTH till Christmas, y’all!!!!!!!!!!!!  Color me excited!!!!  That being said, I am SO SO SO very glad that we instated a four gift policy from Santa years ago.  It really makes Christmastime so much simpler!  Here’s how we do it…

Christmasgifts

The “do” family outing is always the most anticipated gift.  Over the last couple of years we’ve done Snow Mountain, the Circus, Medieval Times and a Wilderness at the Smokies getaway.  This year’s “do” is going to involve the new College Football Hall of Fame and a few other local Atlanta attractions!!  All of their Santa gifts go in their Santa Sacks, which were the best $1 I ever spent after Christmas at WalMart years back.

In addition to the Santa gifts, they also each get a stocking, a gift from Mommy and Daddy, a gift from each other, and an ornament for their tree.  That is also always a fun one to pick out – we choose something that speaks to one of their interests or something special we did that year.

I get my decorations up early every year, but I never get started on the shopping until after Thanksgiving.  Oh what fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. This really is such a smart idea! And I can't wait to see what all attractions are included this year. I am so excited Christmas is only a month away – my favorite month of the year! xo

  2. I love, love, love this idea! I have shared it with so many of my friends whose little ones are still "small" and they too love it. It helps relieve some of the stress of buying too many unnecessary things. This year's "do" sounds like a lot of fun. We are hoping to make a trip down as our youngest LOVES sports!!

  3. I really like this idea! Although we don't have children yet, my husband and I have wondered how we will contain the excess during Christmastime and provide a more meaningful experience. Love this!

  4. I like the 4 gift idea. We always did three gifts from Santa to represent the 3 gifts from The Three Kings to Jesus. Then a Christmas ornament, and a gift from Mom and Dad. Of course, they also received from extended family. My kids are now 25,23 and 20 and we still do the same tradition even though they are no longer kids!

  5. This is absolute perfection! I hope you don't mind but I totally just pinned this with the details you wrote for future reference. We are due in ay so no littles yet but this is something the hubby and I could definitely get into tradition wise and cut down excessive spending at Christmas! Happy Thanksgiving week to ya'll! xoxo

  6. I love, love, love, your tradition! I so wished I had known about this when my children were little. You have the most amazing ideas!!

  7. This is a wonderful idea. With 3 kids Christmas gets so expensive for our family. We finally went to a similar plan, the kids really enjoy the 'something to do' surprise.

  8. Hi! I hope you don't mind but I'd love to pick your brain about this idea! As I begin my shopping today for my two boys, I'd like to go into it with more purpose. I feel that in years past, we've bought things just for the sake of having 'things' to give them. There are years where the toys/gifts that are opened go untouched literally moments after getting them.

How old were your boys when you started this tradition? Mine are 10 and 5 and I'd love to move to doing this this year. Are your boys aware when making their lists for Santa that they will get the 4 categories? So, do they think about something they want/need/to do/to read when list making? Is the something to do normally a family outing or does each boy get their own "thing" to do? If your boys were not super young when you started this, how did you introduce it to them? My 5 year old may not really notice a big difference but my 10 year old would notice the change.

I happen to already have those exact same Santa sacks as my mother-in-law gave us presents in them years ago and I saved them! I'm looking forward to the possibility of starting this new tradition with my family! Thank you so much for always being so open in sharing your ideas with us!

  9. This is such a great idea and I love that you continue the tradition. Friends do the 3 gifts plus gifts from them to their kids. I believe it adds more meaning and certainly eliminates excessive gifts and spending.
