Bathroom Diaries {Demo is Complete}

While I was gone in Germany, the bathroom renovations were in full swing!!  Honestly, I am really glad that I missed this part.  I hear that it was pretty intense.  My contractor scheduled it this way to perfectly time plumbing and framing as soon as I returned.

Master Bathroom Demo

There were times when I never thought I’d see the end of the blue and white!  I don’t miss it one bit!  You can see here that they have already taken the space from John’s extra closet in the right corner.  Unfortunately the sub floor was not in good enough condition to keep so that had to go and new floor will be replaced so that the tile can go down flawlessly.  We are also taking out all of the polybutelane pipes.

Good bye navy blue behemoth tub!

I couldn’t believe this remnant of wallpaper that was uncovered.  I seriously cannot imagine all of the old blue and white tile AND this on the walls.  Oy!  That must have hurt to look at.  I don’t necessarily hate this wallpaper, in all honestly, but I do HATE it with the blue and white tile.

If you want to track along, you can see the choices we’ve already made here…

Project Selection List

Boys Bathroom Demo

The boys bath was also taken apart in my absence.  This project is much smaller than in the master as we aren’t changing the walls, size or even plumbing.

Project Selection List

It’s already been a busy week here, with workers here ALL day for the last two days!  I can’t wait to share more.

  1. Hi Amanda! My name is also Amanda and I’ve kept up with your blog through the years and am excited to watch the bathroom remodel. I know you don’t know me from Adam’s house cat, but I do have one suggestion. Have you thought about installing a heated towel warmer? While we’ve never remodeled a bath ourselves – we did live in a house with a recently remodeled bathroom and it had a heated towel warmer. Wow! It was amazing. Not only was it a daily luxury to dry off with a cozy/warm towel, but we loved that our towels dried after use and didn’t develop a damp musty odor. It may be too far along in your process to suggest this, but I had to share. I can’t wait to see the final result. I know it will be beautiful and functional. Good luck!

    1. That’s such a great idea. Honestly, I’m still not sure in the master where we will have room for a towel bar or if it will just be hooks. I also looked at radiant heated floors but had to cut the project off somewhere. :-)

  2. Wow, I can’t imagine all of the blue in that bathroom with the wallcovering and the tile! Can’t wait to see the finished product. We need to update our bathrooms so I have loved seeing the choices and progress you are making, too.

  3. Wow, that paper is interesting! If I might be nosey, may I ask how you are handling showering with two bathrooms out of commission? Whenever we did two remodels they were piggybacked, not simultaneous.

    1. It cut quite a bit out of the price to do them at the same time! The boys shower was already non functional and we were all using the master. Now we are all in the guest room. Whit showers at night. John leave soon 1.5 hours after him in the morning. I shower after everyone has left for the day… if the crew hasn’t already arrived for the day. :-)

  4. We are in the middle of making over our master bath and our boys’ bathroom as well!! I have loved seeing your choices and following along. I’ve been a reader for a very long time (my older son is one year older than yours and my younger son and Whit are the same age) and know how much you’ve wanted to reno your master!! So exciting! I cannot wait to see the finished product!!
