It’s been a summer of binging and I’m so okay with that! Here’s my What We’re Watching Part 8 roundup.
Firefly Lane
I binged both seasons of Firefly Lane of the course of two amazing weeks. I fell in love with Tully and Kate. At times I hated one, or was frustrated with the other, but I laughed, cried, sang and danced along with them through it all. This one is one of the best and it will stay with me a long, long time. It also proves what I’ve always told my boys… you really only need one good friend.
Best friends Tully and Kate support each other through good times and bad with an unbreakable bond that carries them from their teens to their 40s.
Sweet Magnolias Season 3
The only negative thing I can say about Sweet Magnolias season 3 is that it went by WAY too fast. I watched the whole dang thing last weekend. Like Kate and Tully in Firefly Lane, I envy the friendships of Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue and wish I had a weekly margarita crew in small town USA!
Lifelong friends Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue lift each other up as they juggle relationships, family and careers in the small, Southern town of Serenity.
Ruby
I read the Flowers in the Attic books as a kid and watched the made for Lifetime series back in 2014. Well, now Lifetime has a new series out about Ruby Landry. It’s not as twisted as the originals, but it’s still worth a binge.
The V.C. Andrews Ruby Landry series follows a young woman as she uncovers the dark secrets of her wealthy, mysterious estranged father and her family’s sordid past.
Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret
What can I say? This one gave me all the emotions. It was a true blast from the past and I relived so many forgotten memories of the awkward tween years. My only regret is that I saw it alone.
A beloved and best-selling classic comes to the big screen with Lionsgate’s adaptation of Judy Blume’s Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. Starring Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, and Abby Ryder Fortson as Margaret, this timeless, coming-of-age story has transcended decades and spoken to generations. Air
Well this one was definitely the shocker of summer for me! Honey turned it on while we were working on a puzzle and after just about 10 minutes I had my feet propped up and the puzzle was all but forgotten. I’ve never not liked a movie with Affleck and Damon, but this one honestly wasn’t even on my radar. Two words – SO GOOD.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody
Let’s face it, Whitney was an icon of my youth. She was beautiful and talented and, like every other girl growing up in the 80s, I belted out her tunes, slow danced and couple skated to them throughout high school. Her death was shockingly tragic. Her movie gave me an opportunity to learn so much more about the woman I idolized.
This complex portrait of the incomparable Whitney Houston follows the singer’s stunning ascent from New Jersey choir girl to international superstar.
Girl in the Picture
This is an absolutely haunting, completely horrifying documentary. It is so intense and twisted, that it is hard to stomach that it is real. I don’t want to give away too much, but if you have the nerves for it, it is a good watch. And, for what it’s worth, I’ll never forget the girl in the picture.
In this documentary, a woman found dying by a road leaves behind a son, a man claiming to be her husband — and a mystery that unfolds like a nightmare.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story
Well, I pretty much gobble up anything Bridgerton and this one was just as good as the regular seasons. In fact, I might have even loved it more! It was fascinating and heart-warming to get a peek inside Charlotte and learn her back story. There’s a lot more to her than big hair, puppies and matchmaking.
Young Queen Charlotte’s marriage to King George of England sparks an epic love story and transforms high society in this “Bridgerton” universe prequel.
The last two I’ll share were pretty bizarre and I’m not sure I actually recommend them: Run Rabbit Run & The Strays. Honey would say I love “weird” shows, but these movies were a little too odd for even me.
