Disney Destiny Travel Diary {Day 3: Castaway Cay}

If I’m being completely honest, I always look forward to Castaway Cay more than any other port. Not because it’s the most exotic destination. Not because it has the fanciest excursions. But because thirteen years of Disney cruising have left me with so many wonderful memories on this island. From babies building sandcastles to teenagers racing off with friends and family bike rides, cabana days and simply floating in that gorgeous water, it feels familiar in the very best way. Castaway Cay is simply the perfect curated beach day.

Day 4: A Perfect Sea Day

We started our morning, as was becoming our routine, with breakfast in the Concierge Lounge. Afterward, I disembarked early with Mother and Daddy-O while the rest of our group trickled onto the island at their own pace. Since we had reserved a cabana for the day, we wanted to make the most of every minute. And goodness, I’m glad we did.

The morning started a little drizzly, but the weather cleared within the first hour and rewarded us with a beautiful day. The kind of day where you completely lose track of time. We talked, swam, lounged in the sun, floated in the crystal blue water, read, snacked and simply enjoyed being together. There’s almost no cell or wifi, so you are unplugged in the best way!

As the afternoon wore on and the Bahamian sun reached its peak, members of our group gradually began heading back to the ship. The grandparents and Whit called it a day while Honey and I joined Sister’s family in soaking up every last minute of paradise. That’s always my favorite… watching the beach slowly empty, lingering just a little longer and making our way back to the ship shortly before all aboard. Vacation rule: never leave paradise early if you don’t have to.

After showers and happy hour in the Concierge Lounge, everyone split up for the evening. Honey wanted to grab a drink in the Sanctum so we popped by there. It was quite the experience!

Honey and I joined Mother and Daddy-O for dinner at Palo, one of our favorite Disney Cruise Line traditions. The atmosphere, service and food are always exceptional, and it felt like the perfect adults-only evening.

Meanwhile, Sister’s family enjoyed all of the Pirate Night festivities, including the deck party and fireworks. Whit spent the evening celebrating Pirate Night with friends in Vibe, which was exactly where he wanted to be. One of my favorite things about cruising with older kids is watching them create their own vacation memories while still spending so much meaningful time together as a family.

By bedtime, we were sun-kissed, happy and completely relaxed. Another perfect day aboard the Disney Destiny.

Stop number two on Whit’s college tour journey took us to University of Georgia. And spoiler alert… he really liked it. Since our visit to Tennessee, Whit’s interests have shifted a bit.
