The moment we returned home from our cruise, I pulled out my patriotic decorations and got to work.
I know some people wait until closer to the Fourth of July, but I love decorating early enough to actually enjoy it. And this year, there was one decoration I was especially excited to finally display.
This beautiful 250th anniversary flag was one of my Christmas gifts, and it was truly one of my favorite presents under the tree. I’ve been waiting months to pull it out, and it was every bit as special as I hoped it would be.
The flag commemorates America’s upcoming 250th birthday and features thirteen embroidered stars in a Betsy Ross-inspired design. As someone who loves both history and patriotic décor, it was right up my alley.
I hung it above the bookcases in our living room, and it immediately became the focal point of the space. I love that your eye is drawn straight to it when you walk through the front door. It feels celebratory aaaaand even a bit over the top and serves as such a beautiful reminder of the milestone our country is approaching. I suspect this flag will have a place in our home every summer for many years to come.
Around the room, I added a few simple patriotic touches using things I already had on hand. I tied ribbons from my stash onto the wall sconces and added a new favorite to the mix, this Gold Star Ribbon that I specifically purchased for America’s big birthday.
On the coffee table, I set out a patriotic puzzle and a deck of cards. Puzzling and game playing were exactly what I envisioned when we designed this room, and it has been sweet seeing friends and family naturally gather around both. There is something so inviting about having activities sitting out ready to enjoy.
The Frame TV got a patriotic refresh too. I purchased a festive piece of digital artwork from Etsy, which remains one of my favorite decorating shortcuts. There is nothing to hang, nothing to store and it can be changed with the click of a button.
I will admit, however, that after purchasing the artwork I somehow convinced myself I needed to customize it. What followed was an entire evening spent creating a watercolor-style “250” and thirteen stars to add to the design. It was far more work than anticipated, but I love how it turned out.
And that’s it for the living room.
The dining room, kitchen, den, porch, pool and front exterior are all decorated and waiting their turn in front of the camera. I still have plenty of photographing to do, but I couldn’t wait any longer to share this beautiful flag.
