The Colonial Triangle {Williamsburg Inn}

While in the Williamsburg area, we enjoyed a luxurious stay at the Williamsburg Inn.  Located right in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg, we couldn’t have asked for more from the Williamsburg Inn outside of more time to soak it all in.  We were greeted with sparkling cider for the kids and champagne for the adults on arrival and I knew in that moment that we were in for a treat!

The lobby was beautifully appointed and used as bit of a living room with guests.  Mornings saw small groups having coffee, reading the paper by the fire and just generally relaxing.  There was always coffee and hot chocolate flowing just off of the lobby.

Our room was huge and we loved having so much room to spread out, particularly after having already spent a week in such close quarters.  They had classical music playing on our arrival, with a bottle of bubbly water chilling and fresh flowers around the room.

I love having the Nepresso in our hotel rooms!  Again, that’s just what finally got me to get one at home.

Our turndown service was so wonderful!  They always left the music on, a nightcap for the adults and some chocolates for the kids.

As far as other common spaces, this gorgeous patio was off of the lobby and overlooked the golf course.

Every evening they host Social Hour out here with drink and food specials.  We had spectacular weather the second night and were so happy to attend.

Social Hour is also when Liberty makes her nightly return to the resort after a hard day at work acting as an ambassador to Colonial Williamsburg and greeting guests from all over the country.  She has a Fife and Drum escort and this just might have been the cutest thing we saw all week.

It was definitely the cutest thing he saw all week. <3

In addition to the golf course, there is also fantastic (looking) dining onsite, a high tea, a spa, swimming pools and so much more!

We took the courtesy bikes out one afternoon for a fun little jaunt through Williamsburg – and to check in on our animal friends.

I cannot say enough good things about the Williamsburg Inn and we are already talking of returning during Christmas in 2019.  Yes, we talk about trips that far in advance.  In fact, we are already discussing 2020.  :-)

As for the rest of our trip, I’d love for you to follow along or catch up here.  This post brings our Spring Break 2018 trip to a close.  Thank you SO much for following along and for all of the comments and questions.  It has been so great to share this with y’all.

  1. Loved loved LOVED reading all of your DC posts, Amanda! Thanks for all the tips and recommendations. Can’t wait for my upcoming DC trip in October, adding some things to the itinerary now :).

  2. I’ve really enjoyed your postings about your recent trip to DC and Williamsburg. I need to keep all your advice in mind for when my twin 5-year-old granddaughters get older.

Williamsburg is beautiful at Christmas time. Definitely go on the tour showing all the wreaths on the front doors of the historic residences. They have a competition, I think.

The Williamsburg Inn looks fantastic, but consider staying for a few days in one of the historic houses. We chose to stay in a converted summer kitchen that had two floors, a living area, a bedroom, small kitchen and a bathroom. All private–no sharing. It was so fun going in and out through our ball and chain gate whenever we wanted; it was just like living there.

    1. Thank you SO much for following along. I love the idea of the colonial house. And yes, now I know exactly what the ball and chain is :-)

  3. I’ve enjoyed the recap of your trip. Thanks!
You will absolutely love Williamsburg at Christmas. We go every year the day after Christmas. Everything is decorated and stays up until the day after Christmas. We love staying at the Inn and the lodge but we decided to stay in a colonial house this year, the Chiswell-Bucktrout Kitchen.

    1. Thank you so much! Yes, I saw the colonial houses when I was booking but just wasn’t sure. Maybe we will try that next time!

  4. What a tremendous spring break trip! I’ve so enjoyed following along – thanks so much for sharing! xoxo

  5. Having lived in Williamsburg while in school, I can tell you Christmas time, especially the Grand Illumination is BEAUTIFUL!!! Dining at the Inn is a treat, that is where we celebrated my graduation many moons ago. Also try the delis (Paul’s and College) across from campus and the football stadium for some yummy and totally casual meals.

Ahhhh, I love when folks love Williamsburg….warms my heart!!!

    1. YES!!! I want to see the Grand Illumination!!!!!!!!!!! Will definitely try the delis and explore campus on our next visit.

  6. It seems like your boys were both at good ages to really enjoy and appreciate all of the history you took in on this trip. Do you agree? I’m trying to decide at what ages is a good time to visit DC. Have loved reading your recaps!

    1. They were excellent ages!!! 9.5 and 12.5 in 3rd and 6th grades. The 3rd grader is definitely on the mature end for his age, in my opinion and compared to big bro :-)

  7. Loved your trip posts! I live in Virginia and work in DC so I hardly ever play tourist in our Nation’s Capitol. Your trip posts were so informative and fun that I may have to call out sick…cough..cough…to visit the sites again. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Thanks for sharing you trip. I have loved following along. We visit the DC area once a year, and I’ll be adding some ideas from your trip to our next visit.
