There are some recipes you just don’t mess with. For me, Vidalia onion dip has always been one of those. I’ve had a tried-and-true version passed down from Marme that I’ve been making for decades, and it’s always been a favorite.
And here in Georgia, Vidalia onions are just… iconic. A true staple. So I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical about trying a new version. But this one from Vera Stewart is so much simpler than my usual recipe that I decided to give it a whirl for book club.
And yes… I know you’re not supposed to try a new recipe for the first time when you’re entertaining. I threw caution to the wind and am so glad I did! It was so yummy that not a scrap was left.
In all the times I’ve made this, I can’t seem to find a single photo. I’ve now spent far too much time searching my phone, laptop and even the deleted folder. So for now, here’s one from Vera Stewart… and honestly, it’s much prettier than mine ever was anyway.

I’ve since made it again for our March Pop In & Sip Awhile gathering… and again over Easter weekend to have something easy to nosh on. That’s always the sign of a keeper.
If you want to try it, you can find the recipe here:

It’s not often I retire a tried-and-true recipe but I think this one just earned its place.
