This one is sooo tasty and easy enough to be a School Night Supper! The “recipe” is from Magnolia Table and it just tastes like summer with the addition of thick juicy tomato slices and basil leaves. The havarti melts perfectly and I foresee many more nights with this meal on the table.
Grilled Cheese with Havarti, Tomato & Basil
- Thick country bread
- Thick sliced tomato – 2x sandwich
- Havarti slices – 2x sandwich
- Fresh basil
- Mayo
Start by spreading mayo on both sides of each slice of bread. (I’ve done my grilled cheeses for years with mayo rather than butter and it’s so good!)
Assemble sandwiches with a slice of cheese, tomato slices, basil leaves and a second slice of cheese. Top with the second bread slice and grill.
Hope you enjoyed a lovely weekend and have a fantastic week ahead!

This looks so delicious!
Amanda, what brand of bread did you use?
Pepp Farm hearty white
Can you use Miracle Whip, or does it need to be real mayo?
I’ve always used real Mayo. I’m not familiar with Miracle Whip.
This looks so delicious and I never would have thought to use mayo instead of butter. I will definitley try this recipe. Yum!
This is my kind of meal! I can’t wait to make it. Thank you!
Try adding bacon grease to your butter or mayo when making a grilled cheese. That is amazing. Full on bacon grease tends to be overpowering, but about half and half….delicious.
This looks so good! We will start having soups again soon and this will be a great addition!
