Sunday Supper {Whit’s Cheesy Bread}

Here’s another Whit special – cheesy pull-apart bread! The child spends too many hours looking at puppies, funny pet videos and recipes online :-) He added all of the ingredients for tonight’s bread to the grocery list and then served up this deliciousness with our Sunday Supper. It was delicious!

As an aside, I have not been able to get my favorite frozen roll or bread dough in months. This recipe called for pizza dough which is readily available around these parts.

Cheesy Pull Apart Bread

  • 8 oz shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 stick cold butter
  • 1 finely chopped shallot
  • 4 finely chopped garlic cloves
  • 1/4 chopped parsley
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 lb cold pizza dough (bakery at Publix)
  1. Coarsely grate cold butter on the large holes of box grater. Toss cheeses, butter, shallot, garlic, parsley, and red pepper in a medium bowl; season generously with salt and pepper. Transfer one-third of cheese mixture to a small bowl; set aside.
  2. Cut pizza dough into 1″ pieces. We used a serrated knife and a pizza cutter.
  3. Add dough pieces, a few at a time, to remaining cheese mixture in original bowl and toss gently to coat.
  4. Lightly coat a medium pan or baking dish with nonstick spray. (We used a cake pan). Arrange dough in one layer; pour any leftover cheese mixture in bowl over. Let sit in a warm place until beginning to puff slightly, 30–40 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375°. Bake bread until top is lightly browned and cheese is melted, 18 minutes. Top bread with reserved cheese mixture. Continue to bake until edges of bread are golden brown and firm and cheese is melted and oozing, 10–15 minutes more. Serve hot.

The cheese on top browned quickly so we think next time we will bake it covered to start and then uncovered for the last 10-15 minutes. Inside was gooey delicious!

We enjoyed this delicious creation with pork tenderloin, roasted asparagus and mashed potatoes. Yum!

  1. Have you checked Walmart for the frozen bread dough? I normally shop at Publix, but Walmart seems to have a few items I can’t find at Publix. I make Stromboli with the frozen dough & have found it there recently. Good luck!

  2. If Whits cheesy bread is half as good as his maple pecan cheesecake then I cant wait to make it! I really think Whit should work on a teens cookbook since he clearly has such a love of cooking and has really developed his culinary skills. My family loved the cheesecake so much at Thanksgiving they have already requested it again for Christmas!!
