There is something really special about a recipe woven into family history – one that’s been passed around the table for decades, attached to memories, stories and people you’ve loved your whole life. The Steak House Cheese Spread is exactly that for my family.
The original Steak House on Victory Drive in Savannah was a staple for more than 25 years. It was a place Mother and Daddy-O grew up on and still recall with the fondest nostalgia. They were known far and wide for their famous cheese spread. While Marme has been making her version of the spread for as long as I can remember, she recently ran into a family member connected to the restaurant and finally got the missing detail: fresh minced garlic!
We’ve enjoyed this spread at every occasion I can remember – holidays, birthdays or just because – and thought it was time to share it with you. The photo I snapped was a quick Christmas memory, not a styled shoot (ha!), but I promise… the spread itself is absolute perfection.

Steak House Cheese Spread
- 1 block softened cream cheese
- 11.3 oz container softened Kaukauna Cheese
- 2 cloves fresh minced garlic (don’t skip!)
- 2 Tbsp half and half
- Dash of ground red pepper
Mix well and serve at room temperature. Best enjoyed with sliced French or Cuban bread.
Recipes like this remind me that food is often the bridge between past and present. I hope your family enjoys this as much as mine always has.

We made this yesterday after your “mini-share” in your Savannah Christmas recap post. It was so good… the cheese dip I didn’t know I needed! It is indeed best on bread but also quite tasty on good ole wheat thins!
I’m so glad you liked!
