Walk of Fame 2021 – The 10th Anniversary!

May 27, 2021May 26, 2021

We’ve celebrated a LOT of things over the years, but the last day of school Walk of Fame is my most favorite of all. I can hardly believe that we have reached the 10th anniversary of this tradition! It’s not elaborate or expensive, but it makes me happier, prouder and more excited than any of… Read More

November 5, 2020November 7, 2020

Look who’s back… back to school! This photo and post are both Freshman approved! :-) We were ALL ready to get this kid out of flannel pants in his bedroom and back in the classroom, including John. He said it was a good day, and we couldn’t be happier. Like when Whit headed back, we… Read More

The First “Actual” Day of 6th Grade

October 27, 2020October 27, 2020

Oh, happy day! Middle school has returned in person and we are thrilled! We kicked things off with our first day of school breakfast…. round two! This was the first, and hopefully the last, time we trade in school busses and apples for spiders, ghosts and jack ‘o lanterns. I asked Whit for one adjective… Read More

On My Bedside {The Year We Disappeared}

September 30, 2020September 15, 2020

By now I’m sure y’all know that I’ve found a number of books that I loved via my boys’ required school reading. Most recently was Refugee, and now The Year We Disappeared by Cylin and John Busby. When John chose this title for his Lit class book club, I was immediately intrigued. This extraordinary true… Read More

On My Bedside {Refugee}

September 3, 2020September 3, 2020

I have enjoyed so many incredible books thanks to my kids’ literature and social studies teachers. The most recent was Refugee by Alan Gratz. This was required reading for John over the summer and had us both captivated chapter by chapter and page by page. It is a powerful story of three teens seeking refuge… Read More

Backyard Huddle Kickoff

August 29, 2020August 31, 2020

There is just a small group of kids that move from our elementary school to our middle school. That alone was a hard adjustment for John entering 6th grade. With Whit starting middle school virtually, I dreamed for weeks about a way to help the small group of kids that were in his shoes find… Read More

Some nights just deserve a place on the grid. 🎻⚡️ Some nights just deserve a place on the grid. 🎻⚡️

Whit had the incredible honor of learning from and performing on stage with Mark Wood… original electric violinist for Trans-Siberian Orchestra, creator of the iconic Viper electric violin and composer known for blending classical music with rock energy in the most unforgettable way.

And unforgettable is exactly what this night was.

Symphonic rock. Hard rock. Heavy metal. A full stage of student musicians absolutely pouring their hearts into every note with so much confidence, passion and energy.

And then there was Whit… featured cellist during Carry On Wayward Son, which already held a spot on my all-time favorites list before this night. Watching him up there completely in his element was one of those proud mom moments I know I’ll hold onto forever.

I know this video is long and maybe a little “mom scrapbook” coded… but this one deserved its square among the memories and adventures.🤍
