September’s gift was all about laundry! And, can I share a little secret… this inspired John to start doing his own laundry right away. I love it!
I started with a rolling laundry hamper with a pretty large capacity. Inside were all the laundry supplies he could possibly need.
I also added a large laundry backpack bag. Not knowing what his living situation will be next year, I don’t know if he’ll be hauling laundry to a facility, or have it in an apartment. Either way, I figure he’ll never come home to see me without a few loads in tow. I know I never did in college. :-) I also used one of my favorite zippered waterproof pouches to put a few laundry sheets, color catchers and pods for on the go. I can’t imagine he will be carrying around all these supplies.
As an aside, he let me know that he doesn’t want this monogram to appear on anything else he’s taking to college. I kinda knew this when I did it but I hoped he “wouldn’t notice.” HA! He said he’d like a block JWW in a straight line if it is absolutely necessary that he be able to tell his stuff apart from someone else’s. But only if “absolutely” necessary. :-)
I know you all have likely have favorite detergents and what not, but these are ours. I also have links to the hamper and backpack.
I put this together while trying to think like a teenage boy ….
- Waterproof Zipper Pouch – so he doesn’t have to take all the various bottles and boxes around
- Hamper with Wheels – he’s already using at home :-)
- Backpack Laundry Bag
- Downy Wrinkle Releaser – this stuff is amazing and I use it all the time; I think there is a chance he will too!
- Clothes Steamer – doubt this will be used, but I recently replaced mine so am giving him the old one
- OxiClean Stain Remover – will probably never see the light of day, but it’s there
- Color Catcher – all the colors will likely go in together
- Fabric Softener – he loves for his clothes to smell good
- Scent Booster – see above; he does use this at home
- Tide Pods – easier than powder or liquid, which I use at home
I haven’t yet decided what I’ll do this month, but I loved all of your suggestions on last month’s post so much!!

LOVE the 12 gifts of senior year idea.
Another laundry mat (& environmentally) friendly item is laundry sheets.
Weightless. Can’t burst open. Way less plastic.
To your health!
Hi Amanda. What a great haul! I laughed to myself about his comment that he doesn’t want anything else monogrammed. I remember when my daughter said the same thing to me when she was in college :).
