Christmas is on its merry way and I’ve got to get this tour wrapped up. Today I’m sharing the boy’s rooms. I’m running out the door to volunteer at school so I might have to keep this heavy on pictures and light on words.
Christmas Decor – Boy Bedroom
I honestly think this is still one of my favorite rooms ever. It is just so happy and sweet – much like the little boy that lives here.
Last year on a sick day at home, he made his very own painting to hang over his bed. Of course, back then he had the crab painting still which he was not a fan of. He was really torn this year on taking down Elsa’s painting for the reindeer painting.
His sheets and the darling pillow were new last year from Pottery Barn Kids. He has a full bed and John has a queen. I bought the red stripe set in a queen and split it up – Whit gets the top sheet and John has the fitted sheet. I love the look of mis-matched bedding.
Over on the other side of the room is his dresser (Honey’s as a child) and the chair that we move to make room for the tree. The felt garland was also from Pottery Barn Kids. I thought about making one but quickly realized this one was worth the price to not add one more project to my list. Sometimes that is the case, right?!
Here is another piece of art by Whit. Hard to believe that he was 4 when he carried it home and will be TEN tomorrow.
The North Pole pillow was one I just happened to find and I LOVE it. I knew the moment I saw it that it would be perfect in here.
He has other special Christmas touches around his room. A stocking made by Mother, an old Nutcracker of mine and a needlepoint pillow I had for his nursery the year he was born… just in case he came before Christmas. (He was early and he did!)
We give the boys an ornament each year that is representative of something they did or loved that year, and we also collect them on vacations in what is usually our only souvenir. My parents give them a dated nutcracker every year, and they also have the ornaments they make at school. I made a colorful garland for Whit’s tree out of old Disney MagicBands!
Christmas Decor – Teen Bedroom
Moving on to John’s room, you will find more colorful Christmas decor and special things he has had for years.
When he got his new bed and updated room last year, we chose the woody sheets for him at Pottery Barn for a more of a grown up look. Since he is already plotting to take his dad’s jeep when he turns sixteen, he loved them. I got the FAO bear for him in NYC as a sweet memento of his trip. He hasn’t given it a second glace, but maybe one day he will have it to pass along to his own kid. Or just use as part of his grown up Christmas decor. Or, maybe it will always live here on his bed in his childhood room. All I know is that I wasn’t leaving without it. Ha!
The print over his bed for Christmas is a limited edition courtesy of The Old Try. It is hard to see but it has all of the reindeer listed and the O in Rudolph is red. The Red Ryder print was also a limited edition Old Try print but it hangs here year round.
His desk was my mother’s as a child, and I added a few Christmassy things for the season. Over on the dresser are more of my old nutcrackers and another Christmas Old Try print.
The reindeer pillow was picked out for him as a newborn on his first Christmas! In my old age I also put Whit’s newborn pillow in here in the lucite chair. Oops. You can see other more “babyish” relics of Christmas past tucked away on his bookshelf.

She finds them at different places every year! She paints the bottoms with their initials and the year.
Looks great. Question: How do you keep the boys interested in their current room decor at their ages? Mine constantly complained about the decorative items until I let them finally have Marvel, Star Wars, etc. take over!
Oh gosh, mine really don’t care AT ALL. Whit loves his stuffed animals, books and Elsa art. Other than that no input whatsoever. John is similar. Just wants his big bed and beanbag. Their daddy is the same way though. :-)
That’s interesting! Mine DO NOT want their rooms to look decorative so posters, sports and super heros have taken over too. They say that I have the rest of the house to make look “pretty”!
I’d be fine with that too! It makes me so sad to think that my oldest will be out in 5 short years. If he wanted to tape lacrosse posters over every surface I’d let him. We don’t entertain friends in bedrooms and they still do their homework in our main living spaces so they are really only there to sleep. They have done a real number on the basement though – posters, nurf hoops, trophies, etc. That is probably why they are so apathetic about their rooms.
Love it. I did buy nice poster frames at least so I didn’t completely lose control!
