Mother’s Day

Today I had the most perfect Mother’s Day imaginable! We spent it at home with a full house, full hearts and the two best mothers I know – my own and my sister! Having my parents here for the first time since January 2020 was more than I dared hope for. We ate, swam, lounged, played ping pong and had a wonderful day just enjoying each other after much too long.

I am also immeasurably grateful to be celebrated myself today.

John was my miracle baby, defying odds to make me a mother in 2005, as we came to learn a few years later when we lost Matthew. He was the one that showed me a love deeper, fiercer and more unwavering than I ever knew possible. I have watched him struggle and grow and learn more than I ever would have been able to witness over the past fourteen months. I am so insanely proud of the young man he has become and can hardly believe that I get a front row seat in his life. (Quite literally…. he does high school in his bedroom and joins me for breakfast and lunch most days!)

Whit was the child I prayed for and wanted for more than anything I’ve ever wanted in my life.  He has been nothing but a joy from the moment I laid eyes on him.  All 9 lbs of him! He’s so unlike me in every single way and I just marvel at the things he says, does and thinks. In the last six month or so, his dry sense of humor has kept us in stitches. It’s hard to ever predict what he will do or say next. Just recently we had to opportunity to travel together for a couple of days. He looked at me with the widest, most sincere eyes and complete conviciton in his voice just out of the blue one afternoon and said “When I grow up I am just going to be a nice person. Like a really, really nice person.” My eyes filled with tears as I took both his hands right there in the elevator bank and said “You already are.”

Being mother to these two has been the greatest joy and adventure of my life.

Happy Mother’s Day to ALL of the moms out there.  Happy Mother’s Day to the moms of angels and Happy Mother’s Day to those that have lost their moms.  My heart aches for you.  Happy Mother’s Day to the fur baby moms and the step moms.  Happy Mother’s Day to the birth moms and to the moms by adoption.   You are such strong, amazing women.  Happy Mother’s Day to the Mr. Moms.  And, Happy Mother’s Day to all that play a mom role in the life of someone else.  <3

Flame Tree Barbecue in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Flame Tree Barbecue in Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a long time favorite for a delicious, hearty and affordable quick serve theme park meal. The seating areas are shady and picturesque and are such a nice quiet break from the hustle and bustle of the parks. We’ve dined at Flame Tree a number of times over… Read More
