Visiting Vancouver {Rosewood Hotel Georgia}

We are back from a once in a lifetime adventure to Vancouver and Alaska and I cannot wait to share all of the details! Over the next week or so I will talk about our accommodations, dining, excursions and experiences. The entire trip took two weeks and is something that we have planned and budgeted for since December 2017. Whit chose Alaska as the place he’d like to visit for his 10th birthday (John chose California) and we ended up with my Sister’s family coming to celebrate Jay’s 10th birthday and my parents celebrating their 50th Anniversary! The ten of us are all still on a high from everything we saw and experienced and we are thankful for the time we got to spend together.

Here’s a peek at what’s to come.

Visiting Vancouver & A 49th State Alaska Adventure

Vancouver’s Rosewood Hotel Georgia

We began our adventure with an early morning flight on July 4. We arrived in Vancouver around 4PM and took the SkyTrain from the airport to our resort. It was only a 1 block walk from the train station and we were situated in our rooms by 5:30PM. For this leg of the trip it was my family and my parents. We stayed three nights and had two full days to explore the city before boarding the cruise ship on the final morning. It was the perfect amount of time.

Wherever our travels take us, I love to look for a historic hotel with luxury amenities in a great location at the best possible price. The Rosewood Hotel Georgia fit that bill perfectly!

First opened in 1927, the legendary Hotel Georgia became quickly known as the city’s most fashionable retreat and one of the best hotels in Vancouver. Imbued with a sense of grandeur and elegance, the hotel now features 156 rooms and suites that flawlessly combine legacy with luxury. For generations, guests have indulged in Hotel Georgia’s charming ambience, remarkable service and landmark location.

Walking into the lobby we knew we were in for a spectacular treat! The concierge and staff were all marvelous and had such attention to detail. We were greeted by name on arrival AND every occasion after that in which we saw the man that checked us in. He even sent us champagne to dinner one night.

As far as price, the Hotel Georgia is much more affordable than the two Fairmonts that many Vancouver cruise clients go for. We also took advantage of a buy 2 nights, get 1 free promotion. The Virtuoso amenities that I always talk about included a $63 breakfast credit each morning to use in the Hawksworth Restaurant or in room dining, an additional $100 resort credit and a room upgrade at the time of arrival based on availability. These amenities are only available with a Virtuoso affiliated travel agent and they don’t cost any more than the best available rate!

Our room was beautiful but small for four, like in most big cities. We were still very comfortable and I wouldn’t change a thing!

Whit loved being greeted with cake and a birthday note. They also sent him up a letter about children’s activities and invited him to come down and personally meet the concierge, which he loved.

Speaking of the birthday boy, he took full advantage of the resort amenities and loved lounging around in his robe and slippers, ordering breakfast in bed and swimming in the beautiful spa pool (while I read… GREAT book).

Taking full advantage of our breakfast credit, we dined two mornings in the beautiful Hawksworth Restaurant, and ordered in our last morning pre-cruise. Breakfast was expensive, but delicious and convenient (and much more affordable with $63 to go towards it). There is also a cafe on site for a quick grab and go bite.

We did one dinner in the Hawksworth Restaurant, just adults, to celebrate Mother and Daddy O’s 50th anniversary. It was lovely! And, the boys enjoyed watching a movie and eating take out upstairs in the room. There is a second rooftop restaurant that my family did not have the chance to enjoy. Mother and Daddy O did go for a lunch and said it was great with a fabulous atmosphere.

As noted, the kids enjoyed the indoor spa pool every day! We love having a pool so that after a long day of tours or exploring, the kids can use more of their endless energy while the adults simply relax in a lounge chair.

The cherry on top of our absolutely fabulous experience was when they drove us to the cruise port in the house Bentley! Talk about arriving in style. :-)

Location wise, we walked to dinner two of the nights and both of our scheduled tours picked us up at the door. They have two house cars and are a block from the SkyTrain. We had a marvelous time and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Hotel Georgia for your Vancouver travels!

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

It’s been five years since I’ve stayed at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and I was excited to check out all of the recent updates. I’ve always enjoyed this relaxing escape of vibrant colors and lush landscapes of this moderate resort. The new lobby is really quite beautiful and such a huge improvement over the old… Read More

Musings

Good morning! It’s been a long time since I’ve done a musings post. Let’s start with some of my recent favorites from the internet. Hobby Lobby and CVS. Every time. Anyone else?! This made me laugh so hard. Our pool serves mozzarella sticks and the kids always want them. Not just my kids, all of… Read More
