Uranus is a Homonym

John bounded off the bus a few weeks ago grinning like the Cheshire Cat.  Here’s what went down…

Me: Looks like you had a great day!  (and I know you’re up to something)
J: I did.  I have a new project to do and its on Uranus.  (he tries to stifle a smile and looks at me expectantly)
Me: (also trying to stifle a smile)  Oh.  That’s nice.  (in my most unimpressed tone)
J: Do you know what Uranus is? (he can barely hold it in now)
Me: A planet.
J: It’s also a homonym.  bwahahahahaha.  (FULL hysterics ensue… times two)

Whit: Why are y’all laughing?  That doesn’t even sound funny.  (he still doesn’t know)

As it turns out, Mrs. B assigned the project topics in alphabetical order.  John knew he’d be at the bitter end, and he also knew that Uranus would too.  He was SO beyond thrilled to get it.  I mean, like he won the lottery thrilled.

J: Mommy, everyone wanted Uranus.
Me: Oh, really?  Everyone?
J: Well, ALL the boys.

That, I don’t doubt.  LOLOLOLOL.  So, he got to work on his display board and oral presentation.  It turned out great – he’s a hard worker and an overachiever.  He even recycled his lights and “space” letters from an old Sagittarius project of yore.  One of the items he had to include was a special fact about his planet.  Turns out there is lots special about Uranus… but he added one more to the list.  “Uranus is a homonym.”  We had to practice his presentation MANY times to say it with a straight face.  (And every time we have Whit… “Stop laughing.  It’s just a planet.”)

The best part of it all was the way his board came home.  He swears the ‘R’ “just fell off”.  And I just fell off a potato truck too.  (one of Daddy-O’s favorite sayings)  Wait, wait, wait… the BEST BEST part is that he went home with his bestie A the day the projects came back home.  So bestie A’s MOTHER texted me this pic saying “is this the way it went to school??”  LOL.  She’s an all boy mom too and laughed right along with me.

We had more than our fair share of fun growing up, but things like this just did not go down in the O household.  I mean, it was Sister, Mother and I and poor Daddy-O literally dove into all things girly – Barbies, Cabbage Patch Kids, My Little Ponies, ballet, cheerleading, long days at the Oglethorpe Mall and even formal dress shopping, for crying out loud.

This is one of many, many reasons that I’m so incredibly thankful to have boys.  I just never never knew life could be so darn funny.

xoxo

PS. Happy April Fools Day!!
