Classic Christmas Home Tour 2022 {Exterior & Foyer}

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and I am so excited to welcome you in, once again, this December 1st.  I’ve had the house – both inside and out – decorated for a few weeks now. I can’t lie – I absolutely love having it up early for maximum enjoyment and minimum effort once the holiday seasons arrives. For today, let’s start with the exterior and a quick video tour of the foyer.

Exterior Classic Christmas Decor

I love white lights, garlands and big red bows so much at Christmas.  I can usually go 2-3 years with my ribbons before they fade and must be replaced.  This is actually year five with these bows and I’m really happy with how they held up! I’ve used the same wreaths for the past fourteen years.

See my easy technique for bows in this video >>  How to Make Christmas Bows  and how to hang your wreaths in this post >> 2 Easy Ways to Hang Christmas Wreaths.

Every window on the front gets a wreath. It’s a classic look that I’ve used for the last twenty years on both of our homes.

I assembled monogrammed wreaths for four of our exterior entry doors quite a few years ago and I still love them.  See how I made it and get links to the products used here >> Holiday Monogram Wreath

A few years ago I invested in beautiful urn fillers from Grandin Road.  They are lit by batteries at night and are festive, lovely and easy. Last year I ended up doing rosemary and pansies in the pots for John’s confirmation festivities so I didn’t need to bring out the urn fillers.

This is year eight of the same pre-lit garlands from Costco and after a good run, it is time to retire them. Too many lights are going out now that we have them hung. I still think they are a great product at a reasonable price and I’ll be shopping for them early in 2023.

The friend’s entry is the last little piece to share. I put out our bucket of waters and treats for delivery people starting Thanksgiving week and have already full replinished them.

Exterior Lighting

This Christmas we did something I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do, but have never sprung for… we lit up the exterior roof line for the holiday season. I literally felt like Buddy the Elf on Christmas when the sun set on the first night and our home lit up. It was pure magic!

It’s amazing what a huge impact lighting the roof line makes.

Foyer Classic Christmas Decor

Without further ado, I’m excited to welcome you inside!! There’s no greeting more exuberant than the one offered by these two!

You can watch my short video tour here…

The outside decor flows right inside with red ribbons and greenery. I also like to add pheasant feathers in the foyer and den.

You probably notice that I don’t change a lot of my decor year over year. I hope it doesn’t get boring. I tweak things here and there but rarely do an overhaul.

I’ve had the glittery Santa for years and usually put him here surrounded by little trees. I still remember buying him at the Shop of Vinings when Sister and I lived together. We loved that store! I always frame the boy’s current Santa picture here in the foyer. We have not yet received it for 2022 but it should be coming real soon.

The garland here in the entry continues the traditional red and green Christmas colors from outside.

I replaced the garland I had used for the past ten years with a battery lit option last year. It’s not as full or fluffy, but it doesn’t require running an extension cord up the stairs and across the hall so it works much better for us! I picked it up at Target. The lights are on a 6 hour on / 18 hours off timer which is nice. They can also be turned on or off at any time.

In addition to reds, golds and greenery, I also use pheasant feathers in the foyer and den. I love holiday decor that has a touch of nature, whether in the form of feathers, leopard prints, antlers, etc.

I loved bringing out the Christmas shades hand painted by my mother again this year.  You can read all about them here >> Christmas Lamp Shades

Finally, the umbrella stand gets a pre-made greenery pick. It plops right inside in two seconds flat!

Thank you so much for coming back year after year to tour our holiday home! It really is the most wonderful time of the year!
