This weekend was so incredibly fun and special as Honey and his 1992 High School Baseball team was the first team to be inducted into their High School Sports Hall of Fame! The team won the school’s first ever state baseball title, with a record of 33 and 5. That season, the Raiders were also the Metro Dugout Club Tourney Champions and Region Champions. The Raiders ended the season ranked 14th nationally by USA Today. Among the members of this remarkable group, 11 Raiders moved on to college baseball (including Honey!), 6 went on to play professionally, and 2 made it to the MLB.
The events kicked off Friday night at the varsity basketball games. First, we were given a tour of the Hall of Fame and Walk of Champions.
Whit wore one of Honey’s old team shirts and it was just surreal. All night players and coaches came up to him saying they remembered it!
Then Inductees and their guests watched the game perched above the court and enjoyed a lovely reception.
We were thrilled to have Honey’s mom, Sister’s family and some very special friends of Honey in attendance. On top of that, so many of John’s friends were there for the game and came by to shake Honey’s hand. The boys are so very proud of their dad.
This new Hall of Fame Inductees were presented between the girls and boys games. It was a neat god-wink to have our dear friend, the voice of Raider sports, present them!
After the team festivities, friends and family joined us back at the house for an epic after party celebrating Honey and our dear friend MF!
I pulled out tons of things I’ve used for first days of school, homecoming, backyard huddles and the likes! I love that the middle school and high school are both Raiders – I have years of things. :-) We picked up yearbooks and photos from Honey’s mom’s house earlier in the day to have out on display.

It was serendipitous that John received his varsity letter jacket just three days prior to our big event! Seeing these two hanging on the mantle together had me in awe all day long. How incredibly special!
I set up my favorite way to entertain these days – a massive grazing board! I reused the RAIDERS dishes from Homecoming.
At the bar I came up with a few signature drinks using a mixer (Hot Ruby) a sweet friend gave me. I loved that it was red and fit the theme.
We had the BEST night celebrating the men of the night – Honey and MF (fellow Raider AND Yellow Jacket ball player!)
Shhhh…. don’t tell John I wore his jacket before he did.
It was a truly memorable night. I get to celebrate the boys often, so it was my supreme honor to do the same for Honey!
The after-after party consisted of card games going late into the night.
Congrats Honey. I still remember (ahem) admiring him on from the Yellow Jackets stands of the baseball field. That girl never would have guessed she’d be doing this decades later.
