I’ve been hosting so much lately that I decided to take a year off from our annual Fourth of July festivities to simply soak in all the patriotic fun for once. With the boys getting older and making their own plans, our little soiree had kind of fizzled out over the last few years anyway. And while I’m someone who loves traditions and holds them close, this little pivot felt really, really good!

So, we were off to celebrate America at our neighborhood club’s festivities instead. The evening kicked off with a delicious BBQ dinner – piled-high plates of pulled meats, mac & cheese, potato salad and all the Southern fixings – plus summery cocktails in hand and a rockin’ DJ spinning tunes. I was so swept up in the party that I even opted to visit the face painter. LOL. There were more friends and neighbors gathered together than we ever could have corralled at our house, and it felt like a true old-fashioned community celebration.

The grand finale was a spectacular fireworks show set to all the classic patriotic tunes … a perfect ending to a night that reminded me why I love this country and the people we share it with. Kids ran around with sparklers, we caught up with familiar faces under strings of twinkle lights, and laughter carried across the lawn.

God bless America, my home sweet home!
