Celebrating Christmas 2021 {Buckeye Balls & Reindeer Cocktails}

I have two fun little holiday treats to share today.

Buckeye Balls

The first is Buckeye Balls, which I am sure most of you already have on your holiday treat rotation. I had not made these in YEARS and the boys fell in love. We gobbled them up faster than we should have. The chocolate bark can be hard to find. I got mine early in the season at Kroger. I will definitely be making these again for Christmas 2022.

  • 1 ½ cups creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • chocolate bark
  • Line a baking sheet with waxed paper; set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, mix peanut butter, butter, vanilla, and confectioners’ sugar with hands to form a smooth stiff dough. Shape into balls using 2 teaspoons of dough for each ball. Place on prepared pan, and refrigerate.
  • Melt chocolate bark in a metal bowl over a pan of lightly simmering water. Stir occasionally until smooth, and remove from heat.
  • Remove balls from refrigerator. Insert a wooden toothpick into a ball, and dip into melted chocolate. Return to wax paper, chocolate side down, and remove toothpick. Repeat with remaining balls. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to set.

Tipsy Reindeer Cocktails

The second item to share today is for the adults – Tipsy Reindeer Cocktails. I want y’all to know that these were a FULL 18 months in the making!!! I ran across a photo of a drink served in a hollowed out chocolate reindeer in mid-2020. Well, Christmas 2020 came and went and come to find out those chocolate reindeer do not exist. At Easter 2021 I decided to purchase two chocolate bunnies as a stand-in. Y’all have NO idea what it took to keep three males from eating those. And then, I had to remember that I bought them and stashed them. HA! Once they crossed my mind, I started trying to figure out what holiday treat to put in them. And from that, my Tipsy Reindeer Cocktail was born!

  • 2 oz skrewball peanut butter whiskey
  • 1.5 oz kahlua liqueur
  • .5 oz vodka (if desired)
  • 1 oz half and half
  • Whipped cream, rosemary and a red sprinkle or small candy to garnish

I first carefully sawed off the bunny’s ears right at the base. I mixed the cocktails in a separate measuring cup and then poured into the “reindeer”. I topped with whipped cream and carefully inserted a straw when I realized we needed a way to drink this thing. I pushed in two short clippings of rosemary for antlers and a small red candy for Rudolph’s nose. They were darling and delicious and packed quite the reindeer kick.

I hope you’re still celebrating wherever you are!!
