Wrapping Up The School Year

For the first time in fourteen years, we didn’t mark the last day of school with a themed dinner or special snack.

With the boys finishing at such different times, we pivoted and instead took each one out for some meaningful 1:1 time. I love our traditions, but as our family grows and changes, I’m learning to hold on to the ones we all still enjoy… and lovingly let go (or revise) the rest. This new approach turned out to be such a sweet way to celebrate jobs well done.

I did a quick changeover of our kitchen display from Honey’s birthday to “Last Day of School” mode for the few days surrounding each of their wrap-up dates. The banner is from Birthday Butler, and it always adds that extra touch of celebration.

As for John, Honey and I drove up to Auburn during finals week to take him out and bring home a load of his dorm things. He picked Niffer’s for dinner, and it did not disappoint. John had a truly sensational first year. He transitioned to dorm life with zero hiccups, pledged Sigma Chi (and survived – and so did I!), and wrapped the year with a 3.9 GPA while staying committed to his engineering track. He’s debating whether to continue in the Honors College — and while I’ll offer my thoughts, it’s ultimately his decision to make.

For Whit’s celebration, he chose a new pho spot in town, and it was delicious. He’s a man of few words… until you get him talking! I recapped his amazing year yesterday, but suffice it to say, we are so proud of the quiet strength and steady heart he brings to everything he does.

Looking ahead to summer:
John is tackling Calc 3 and Physics 2 online, and Whit is knocking out Health. John has slipped effortlessly back into our daily routine. It’s like he never left. The boys have golfed together nearly every day and my heart is full. This slower season with both of them home is something I deeply treasure. These are the days.

Around Atlanta {Omakase at Home Birthday Celebration}

Last month, we had the most spectacular evening celebrating our dear friends’ birthdays with an omakase in their stunning backyard. As the sun set over the beautiful table—surrounded by genuinely kind, funny, and entertaining friends—you couldn’t help but feel magic in the moment. Derived from the Japanese phrase “Leave It Up to the Chef,” omakase… Read More
