On the heels of our master bathroom reno update news, we’re taking things one step further and doing the boys bathroom at the same time!  This little bathroom has seen three renditions in the last 9 years.  First, how it looked on move-in day.  I’d never in my life laid eye on a tri-fold shower door or a tri-fold mirrored medicine cabinet until I became the proud owner of such lovely items.  All jokes aside, at the time I was very appreciative of the updated counter, sink and faucets and was pleased that the original 1964 honeycomb tile was white-ish and in good repair.

So before we moved in, we removed the medicine cabinet and shower door contraption, gave it a good scrubbing and painted the walls and vanity.  The kids were only 3 months and 3 years old so they weren’t going to be needing their own bathroom, or even a shower for that matter.  We had all of the Pottery Barn Alphabet Soup decor from our old house and just made it work in the new space.

When they outgrew the baby look, I had hopes that they would start to move their operation in here.  I updated it with a new shower curtain and a few decor items (mostly from Target) but they still never took to the space.  It wasn’t until Whit moved into his own room last August, that he showed any interest in using this bathroom.  We soon realized that the shower was not functional without a door, the tile was badly cracked in multiple spots along the bottom of the shower, and that the plumbing and fixtures were all on their last leg.  We also learned that the sink faucets, while updated, were cheap (some parts are plastic!) and we’ve had a bunch of issues with them.

So, for all these years this space has mostly been idle and, with two growing boys, it is time to give them their own space.  We never really intended to leave it like this for so long.  Part of it was that I felt overwhelmed with living through an interior renovation.  And, part if it was that we pay cash and have always had some other thing we wanted to do more (travel, landscape, the exterior, the porch addition, etc. etc. etc.).  When we finally decided to tackle the master bathroom reno, we went all in and added this one on at the same time.

I don’t have a mood or inspiration board to share yet, but my goal is to have a light, bright, traditional and functional space for two boys that seamlessly transitions from the rest of the house.  We will keep the exact same layout.
