I was so flattered when the ladies behind Cindy Hattersley Design & Classic Casual Home invited me to participate in today’s round of their Project Design series focusing on sprucing up your entry. I am sharing four simple ways to do just that!

… to be lighter and brighter for spring and summer!
So, without further ado, here are four easy ways to update ANY space!
1-SWAP YOUR FABRIC
I love my burlap table cover and it will absolutely be back, but it felt heavy and dark. A few yards of a lighter fabric in a simpler skirt design go a long way in creating this new look. If you don’t have a skirted table, consider other places to use fabric such as in a runner, on a pillow in a chair, or even on your lampshades.
2-LAY DOWN A NEW RUG
The original rug I had in here was never quite the right shade of blue. I browsed through all of the options on my go-to rug site (Decor Market) and found just the right one and in a slightly larger size than I’d used before. This rug is lighter and fills the space so much better than the previous version. Rugs really add a ton of character and personality to any room and are often overlooked. This one gives the entry more of a formal feel and has the same colors that extend through the rest of the house. In some of my other spaces, animal print rugs make the rooms feel more casual and fun.
3-BRIGHTEN UP YOUR LIGHTING
I feel like a wonderful light can really be the crown jewel of any room. In this case, I loved my existing chandelier (brought from our old home 8 years ago so I don’t have source) and it would have been expensive to replace anyway. Instead, I asked my sweet and talented Mother to paint me the perfect new lampshades for the space! In fact, this is the third set I have to swap out here now – another painted set for fall / winter and jack ‘o lantern shades at Halloween. They are so easy to store and are really inexpensive (this project cost $28 total).
4-ADD IN ACCESSORIES
I don’t keep many unused accessories laying around (especially since my 40 bags kicked off) so I really didn’t have much to “shop” from. When accessorizing, I like to make sure I leave some “white space” and that the items I use are not too small or too large for the table or shelf I’m working on. I have no real designer advise other than to try something, stand back, send a pic to your sis and mom, and then decide if it fits your liking. If you need a starting point, easy items to accessorize with are flowers, candles, books and photos. You will want to vary the height of the items you choose.
