Honey and I celebrated our 20th anniversary at an absolutely delightful getaway to Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, North Carolina. Just two and a half hours from Atlanta, it feels like an entire world away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

On the fun and scenic southwestern plateau of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Old Edwards Inn and Spa is woven into the community, culture and setting of the vibrant town of Highlands. Situated in the heart of downtown is a European-style Relais & Chateaux property and mountain resort with luxury guestrooms, suites, cottages, and vacation homes, premium leisure amenities, farm-fed restaurants, and a world-class spa.
Mother and Daddy-O came to town to hold down the fort while we spent four glorious days in the mountains. We made the leisurely drive Sunday morning with the top down, country music blaring, two ice cold Coca-Colas and a big cup of road-side boiled peanuts between us. We stopped at the scenic overlooks along the way without much of a care in the world.
Our arrival started with the Old Edwards Inn signature cocktail – champagne and St. Germain with a fresh blackberry and mint leaf, which we enjoyed on the lawn of The Lodge.
We settled into our absolutely gorgeous Falls Cottage King Suite. The living room was spacious and comfortable, with a writing desk, overstuffed seating, fireplace (it was cool enough to use this time of year in the mornings and evenings!) and coffee bar.
The bedroom was just as beautiful, with the kind of bed you literally sink into.
The bathroom had the most scrumptious products and we couldn’t get enough of the heated floors and towel bar.
And, of course, our patio that overlooked the Springhouse lawn, fireplace and Falls Pool. We unpacked and read on the patio for a while, just soaking it all in.
Our next stop was the Wine Garden for a cocktail before dinner. I guess I forgot to mention that it was also Honey’s birthday!!
We enjoyed a scrumptious dinner at Ristorante Paoletti, just across Main Street from the Inn.
It was the perfect day!
